Welcome

Situated in the hills overlooking Loch Ness to the south,
Balbeg Mill has been lovingly converted by its present
owners from a former corn mill. Last used as such in 1956,
the Mill has been charmingly restored to retain many of its
original features while at the same time providing extremely
comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people. While set
peacefully within its own grounds of approximately 5 acres, the Mill is located in Abriachan, a quiet crofting community which lies in the hills about 1 mile to the north of Loch Ness, offering superb views and a very sunny aspect of the both the loch and of the hills to the south
What We Offer

4 star accommodation for up to 6 people (plus cot) which is centrally heated and very well equipped throughout.

Enclosed garden of about 1 acre, bordered on one side by a shallow mill stream, ideal for children to play in, and crossed by a delightful small wooden footbridge (gated) to give access to paddock on far side. Children’s swing and flat area of grass suitable for ball games; BBQ facilities and garden furniture for dining ‘al fresco’; wooden stile leadingdirectly from garden to further grass paddock which lies between the Mill with its surrounding garden area and the small Abriachan hill road, offering complete tranquillity and seclusion.

Superb walks and breathtaking views from the doorstep – no need to get in the car to find either! Abriachan Woodland Trust has opened up miles of footpaths within easy walking distance of the Mill (see Region page) and Loch Laide, a very attractive
hill loch, is also within easy walking distance of the Mill.

Fly fishing on Loch Laide is freely available to those who are interested (from the bank only – there is a boat house but boat is privately owned by a local fishing syndicate) – and we also own a ½ mile stretch of Loch Ness, immediately at the foot of the Abriachan hill road (further details of access and permit are located in the information pack at the Mill).
Local shopping is available in Drumnadrochit, 4 miles further up the loch, while Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is only 10 miles away, providing excellent shopping as well as a wide range of other
facilities, (especially useful if the weather is inclement for keeping children entertained!)

An Ideal base for exploring the Highlands. Many of our visitors use the Mill as a base from which to explore further afield, for while there is plenty to keep one’s interest in the area, it is also easy to take in the beautiful West coast in a day, including the Isle of Skye, as well as countless beautiful inland areas to the north and south of the area.
